Your Instagram bio has about 150 characters to explain who you are and why people should follow. A simple 4-line formula with examples.
When someone visits your profile, they decide in a few seconds whether to follow. Your bio does most of that work, and Instagram gives you only 150 characters. Here is a simple way to use them well.
The 4-line Bio Formula
- Who you are or what you do: "Handmade leather bags, made in small batches"
- Who it's for or what they get: "Everyday bags that last for years"
- Proof or personality: "Made by 3 sisters since 2019" (only if true)
- One clear action: "Order on WhatsApp 👇" or "New drop every Friday"
Bio Examples You Can Adapt
- Home baker: Custom cakes, baked fresh to order 🎂 | Birthdays, weddings, just because | Order 3 days ahead 👇
- Fitness coach: Helping busy mums get strong at home 💪 | 20-minute workouts | Free plan below
- Creator: Food reviews under $10 🍜 | Honest, always | New video Tue & Sat
Small Things That Help
- Put your main keyword in your name field (e.g. "Sara | Bridal Makeup"), because Instagram search looks at it.
- Use line breaks and a few emoji to make it easy to scan, not to decorate every word.
- Keep the link in bio current. Point it to what you are promoting this week.
- Update your bio when your offer changes. An old bio sends people the wrong message.
Your profile photo matters too: 320 × 320 pixels shows sharply on Instagram. See all sizes in our image size guide.
